Expert Answers about Chevrolet Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Can P185/75R14 Car Tires Be Used on a Trailer
  • A tire size that starts with a P is not a trailer tire. Trailer tires have ST before the size indicating Special Trailer. Tires with a P are passenger vehicle tires and should not be used on a trailer. The issue is that trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than P tires so they can handle more vertical load. The wheels are probably vehicle wheels too and should not be used on a trailer. None of the 14 inch trailer wheels will fit that tire size and none of the 14 inch trailer...

  • Best 13 Inch Trailer Tires and Wheels for a 1500 Pound Casita Trailer
  • All wheels are not created equally! And the same goes for tires. The P in front of your tire size indicates that the tires are for passenger vehicles, not trailers. This is a problem because trailer tires and vehicle tires are constructed differently. Trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires to handle more vertical load. You really need to switch to ST (special trailer) tires for your trailer. The wheel, since it came off of a trailer, will be fine for...

  • Do Trailer Tire and Wheels Come Balanced
  • The tire and wheel combos we carry are not machined balanced. You can have the tire and wheel combos balanced at a local tire shop if you wanted to. What our tire manufacturers will do is line up the light spot on the tire with the heavy spot on the wheel. This is a type of balancing but not like how car tires are balanced (with weights on a balancing machine). This will be suitable for trailer applications. I attached a help article on trailer tires for you to check out as well.

  • The Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C, part # AM30660 will be the correct size tire and wheel for your trailer. What you will need to check is the load range of the tire that is recommended for your trailer and it should match the other tires on your trailer. The load range is listed on the tire as load range B or load range C in the 4.80-12 tire size. The load range C tire which is included in the # AM30660 has a maximum load capacity of 990...

  • Recommendation for the Best Trailer Wheel and Tire Size for Highway Towing
  • You are correct that many deck over trailers have lower height wheels and tires. The reason for this is to reduce the height of the deck for ease of loading and unloading and to reduce the propensity for the trailer to be top heavy which can be a factor that contributes to trailer sway. Trailer tires are not rated for high speed towing. As a general rule most trailer trailer tires and wheels are rated for 65 miles per hour depending on the manufacturer. The best way to select the size...

  • Do the Trailer Rim and Tire Combinations Come Balanced
  • The trailer tire and wheel combination is received from the supplier already with the tire mounted on the wheel. The supplier does not balance the combination, but when the tire is installed to the wheel they will line the high (heavy) spot on the tire with the low (light) spot on the wheel. This does not completely balance the tire and wheel combination but it does eliminate any excessive out of balance condition. I would recommend to balance the tire and wheel combination at a local...

  • Recommend Replacement Trailer Tire and Wheel for E78 14ST Tire
  • The closest trailer tire size we will have available for an E78 14 ST tire is a 205/75-14 tire. • Are Trailer Tires and Wheels Balanced
  • We do not balance our wheel and tire combos like the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H400 in general trailer wheels and tires are not balanced and even when they are done the weights typically fall off since trailer suspension is much rougher.

  • Do I need to balance a 12 trailer tire and wheel?
  • Trailer tires and wheels are not balanced before shipment as the weights could potentially fall off during shipment. Also, trailer tires and wheels, especially of this small size, do not typically need to be balanced and most tire shops don't have the equipment to do so. While you will likely be fine installing Taskmaster 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # TA26RR without any form of balancing, you could go the extra mile by adding Counteract...

  • Do Trailer Wheel and Tires Require Balancing
  • Trailer wheel and tires like the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Tire w 15" Liger Aluminum Wheel # LH36FR that you referenced are not balanced. In general balancing trailer tires/wheels doesn't make a difference to make it worth doing. When people do try it though it's pretty common for the weights to fall off anyway.

  • How To Position the Wheels/Tires On a Camper Outside the Body
  • The trailer axle you were gifted would not be sufficient to position the wheels/tires outside of the camper body because once you subtract the width of the camper from the hub face length on the axle, you will still need to have enough room on each side for both half the width of the wheel/tire and clearance between the wheel/tire and trailer which will need to be around 1-2". In order to position the wheel/tires outside of the trailer you would need to have a hub face measurement that...

  • Recommended 14 Inch Trailer Wheels and Tires with Closest to Car/Truck Wheel Appearance
  • Car or truck rims do not work with trailer tires because trailer tires are made very differently than passenger tires. Trailer tires have a much thicker sidewall and are designed to have the weight centered on the tire for the best load bearing and wear. The vehicle rims will have an offset spacing where the wheel connects to the hub. That does not work well with axles and tires that are not designed for that offset as it will impact your load capacity and your tires will not wear correctly....

  • Do Trailer Tire and Wheel Combos have to be Balanced Before Use
  • You do not have to get tire and wheel combos such as # AM3H390 balanced before use. You can if you want to but it can be difficult to find a shop that has the proper equipment to balance a trailer tire and wheel. It is not the same equipment used to balance car tires and wheels. The manufacturer of the tire and wheel combos matches the heavy side of a tire with the light side of a wheel to sort of balance them. This is all a trailer tire really needs as far as balancing.

  • Recommended Spare 205/75-14 Spare Wheel/Tire for Boat Trailer
  • The Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel part # AM32156 will be an excellent spare wheel/tire for a boat trailer. It has a galvanized wheel which works best in water to resist corrosion and rust. This is a complete combo that comes ready to use in the size you need, both wheel and tire. If you don't already have a spare tire carrier, I recommend the Offset Trailer Spare Tire Carrier by Dutton part # DL22120.

  • Can Trailer Tires be Moved Further Away from the Trailer Frame
  • A wheel with an offset has the mounting surface off center so that the tire will be either closer to the trailer or further away depending on if it is a negative or positive offset. Positive offset means that the tire will be CLOSER to the trailer. Negative offset means that the tire will be FURTHER from the trailer. It sounds like you want a negative offset to move the tires a little further away from the trailer. But if the current set up is not making contact with the frame then you...

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire Recommendation for 2004 Silver Fox 3 Rail Motorcycle Trailer

I attached a review video for this wheel and tire combo for you to check out as well.
